Midrasha

I am the organizer of the Midrasha, a seminar at Weizmann of the research groups of Uri Bader, Tsachik Gelander, and Alex Lubotzky.

The Midrasha takes place on Mondays in two sessions:
Β  Β  Morning session (11:15–13:00) – research seminar (Goldsmith, Room 208),
Β  Β  Afternoon session (14:15–16:00) – learning seminar (Zisking, Room 1).Β

Learning Seminar Topics

Our learning seminar this semester will be exceptional. The primary speaker will be Alex Lubotzky. He will focus on various topics ranging from expanders and Ramanujan graphs to property testing, locally testable codes, stability, group approximation, and soficity. Above all, he will focus on the connection between them.

Seminar Structure: Alex Lubotzky will be the speaker in alternating weeks, providing the big picture, the overarching concepts, and the main insights. During the intervening weeks, other participants will present talks that may involve proving theorems mentioned by Alex, exploring specific examples in greater depth, etc.

Session Schedule: We have adjusted the session times to accommodate our computer science friends since some of these topics interest them. The morning session (11:15–13:00) will now serve as our research seminar, while the afternoon session (14:15–16:00) will feature our learning seminar.

Venue: We have secured Room 1 in Ziskind, anticipating a larger-than-usual audience. However, our morning session (research seminar) will be in the usual Room 208 in Goldsmith, as in previous semesters.
